Two researchers from the University of Bordeaux, France, propose a new hypothesis explaining the origin of the asteroid Belt. In his work Sean Raymond (Sean Raymond) and Andre’isidoro (Andre Izidoro) describe this hypothesis and the results of computer simulation of the proposed scenario.

The asteroid belt is between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It consists of asteroids and small planets forming in the disc around the Sun. According to modern theory, the asteroid Belt was once much more densely populated, but the gravitational pull of Jupiter, pushed nearly 99 percent of the material of the asteroid Belt in the outer part of the Solar system and beyond. Astronomers believe that Jupiter’s gravity did not allow the material of the asteroid Belt to coalesce into a larger planet. To test their hypothesis, the researchers built a computer model simulating the early Solar system, where the place of the current asteroid Belt was empty. Simulations showed that the formation of the disk, like the present asteroid Belt from material planets the outer and inner parts of the Solar system is possible. To further test their hypothesis, Raymond and’isidoro are planning additional studies.
