The ex-President of Georgia, former Governor of the Odessa region Mikhail Saakashvili has filed a lawsuit in the District court of Kiev against the Ministry of justice of Ukraine with the requirement to recognize the illegal extradition check against him at the request of Georgia. On Thursday, December 21, announced the lawyer of the politician Ruslan Chernolutsky.

“Mikhail Saakashvili yesterday filed a separate lawsuit against the Ministry of justice, which asks to recognise as illegal actions of the Ministry of justice in respect of such check,” said Chernolutsky.

According to him, Ukraine has twice denied Georgia’s extradition.

“I very much hope that despite the pressure from the government to the judges of the District court of Kiev, court will still be fair and open-minded, will consider our claim and are denied continuation of this investigation and to the Ministry of justice and the Prosecutor’s office of Kyiv was the opportunity to make a decision on the extradition of Mikhail Saakashvili,” – said Chernolutsky.

According to media reports, the Ministry of justice in early September said that Kiev has received from Tbilisi query about the search, detention and extradition of Saakashvili. The Ministry transmits the request to the attorney General to conduct extradition check.

Earlier, the Ministry of justice expected the check on request for the extradition of Saakashvili will be completed in November, but test results have not yet been.
