According to Rosstat, on January 1, 2019, the population of Russia was 146 million 793,7 thousand people, which is 86,7 thousand persons less, than on January 1 last year.

The reduction affected primarily rural areas. The urban population on 1 January 2019 amounted to 109 million 451,3 thousand people (109 million 326,90 thousand people on January 1, 2018) and the rural 37 million 342,4 million people (37 million 553,5 thousand people on January 1, 2018).
