Higher rates of import duties on certain goods from the United States will range from 25% to 40%.
Russia responded to the increase in U.S. duties on Russian steel and aluminium increase in import duties on some American goods. On Friday, July 6, the press service of the Ministry of economic development.
In particular, the Department explained that the Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev has signed a government resolution on the introduction of increased rates for certain goods from the United States, the analogues of which are produced in Russia.
“Under the (compensating) measures are subject to some types of road construction equipment, oil equipment, tools for metal and rock drilling, and fiber optics,” explained the Minister of economic development of Russia Maxim Oreshkin.
According to him, higher rates of import duties on these goods will range from 25% to 40%, which will allow to support the producers of Russian counterparts, giving them the opportunity to press the Americans on the national market.
Oreshkin also said that due to the increase of duties will only offset part of the damage from the restrictions imposed by the United States – $87.6 million from $537,6 million
“This compensation, which, under WTO rules, Russia now has the right,” – said the Minister.
The extension of the measures Russia will take the decision of the WTO inconsistency of the us measures with WTO rules. In addition, Russia will be able to introduce new limitations after three years from the commencement of the additional duties in USA (21 March 2021).
