The Poprad of Russia to the Council of Europe Ivan Satanovsky made Russia’s withdrawal from the Convention on human rights.
Russia may withdraw from the European Convention on human rights and the Council of Europe, said Russian permanent representative to the COE Ivan Satanovsky.
“We are considering all scenarios, including with regard to their foreign policy consequences for Russia and for international relations on the European continent”, – he said in an interview.
At the same time, he said that this experience helped Russia to “modernize Russian legal system, to humanize the judiciary and the penitentiary system”.
The decision may be Russia’s response that it was deprived of the basic powers in Parlamental Assembly of the Council of Europe. This happened after the annexation of Crimea in 2014. Russia ceased to participate in meetings, and in 2017 we ceased to pay contributions to the organization.
