These are the findings of the report “International strategy for drug control” the US state Department.
Russia remains one of the largest areas where through the countries of Central Asia do Afghan opiates since 2011.
According to UN estimates cited by the US state Department in its report, in Russia annually consume about 70-75 tons of heroin.
The report notes that “other illicit drugs such as cocaine are normally delivered through the ports of St. Petersburg and the Black sea, by couriers from South America and the Caribbean”.
The authors of the report note that according to different sources, the number of people in Russia who inject drugs varies from 7.3 million to 8.5 million people. The number of deaths associated with the use of drugs among people aged 18 to 34 years old fell by 30% from 130 thousand in 2000 to 92 thousand in 2014.
