UN investigates use of chemical weapons in Syria
Russia has offered to send experts into the Syrian town of Khan shaykhun and to the base Shirt for investigation of incident with the use of chemical weapons on April 4. A draft resolution was submitted by the Russian Federation in the UN Security Council.
The document orders to the experts of the joint UN and the Organisation for the prohibition of chemical weapons (OPCW) to investigate the use of chemical weapons in Syria to send a team of investigators to the scene of the incident in Khan Sheyhun “to conduct a full investigation using all possible methods”.
It is also proposed that another group of experts will investigate the shayrat air base and “collect samples to check the allegations that used in Khan Sheyhun sarin were stored at the airbase”.
We will remind, the report of the UN and the OPCW’s incident in Khan Sheyhun 4 April 2017 and Umm Hosh on September 15-16 2016 was submitted to the UN Security Council the day before.
The experts concluded that in the first case, “the Syrian Arab Republic bears responsibility for the use of sarin gas”, and the second “ISIS is responsible for the application of sulfur mustard”. In the Russian mission to the UN has called the latest report of the joint mission of “Amateur”.
