Russia has called the conditions under which it will retain the gas transit through Ukraine

Russia ready to save the transit of gas through Ukraine, said Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak.

Russia ready to save the transit of gas through Ukraine, if it will be cheaper than to supply gas via new pipelines: Nord stream and Northern stream 2. This was stated by Russian energy Minister Alexander Novak.

“Our position is that this issue can be discussed. It can be discussed if conditions are much more profitable than transport for new infrastructure that is being built. Probably, some amount of transportation through the territory of Ukraine remain,” he said.

However, according to the Minister, the current-account transport cost of gas via new pipelines is much cheaper.

“Now all plans for the construction of new pipelines based on the fact that new projects will be built before the end of 2019 – and 2 Nord stream and Turkish stream. I want to mention, what is so interesting, important and commercially attractive project Nord stream 2. First, this is a shorter variant of gas supplies to Europe, in addition, gas production has shifted from Western Siberia to the North of Russia – and this is the savings for consumers and for the shipping organization. Second, the construction of new infrastructure now uses the most modern technology. And the old infrastructure built 50-60 years ago, now requires modernization, which, unfortunately, today we do not see. That is the cost of transporting gas through a new infrastructure cost per 1 thousand cubic meters will be almost two times cheaper”, – said Novak.

The contract for gas transit via Ukraine expires at the end of 2019, Informed the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko proposed to change the principle of the transit and provide services for the transport of Russian gas through Ukrainian territory to Gazprom and its European buyers.
