Gazprom reports “stunning” demand for Russian gas in the EU.
Implementation of the project of gas pipeline Nord stream-2 is on schedule and will be completed by the end of 2019. This was stated by the head of Gazprom Alexei Miller in negotiations with the head of OMV Rainer Seele.
The head of Gazprom predicts that gas exports to the company by the end of 2016 will be a record.
“A plus of 9.9 percent growth. We expect there will be a record amount, at least, the current dynamics of our traditional markets is positive. Most importantly, we see a significant increase in growth countries, which have recently been net exporters – the UK, the Netherlands,” said Miller.
According to him, the growth of demand for Russian gas in Europe confirms the economic relevance of the project Nord stream-2.
“Dynamics of demand for Russian gas is just awesome… To Austria shipments rose by 34.3 percent. These figures confirm that the project is economically viable and in demand of the gas market in Europe”, – said the head of the Russian holding.
16 March it was reported that representatives of eight countries-EU members (Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Lithuania) have signed a letter to European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, in which he expressed disagreement with the project Nord stream-2.
According to them, it can carry risks to the energy security in Central and Eastern Europe.
Project Nord stream-2 involves the construction and operation of the pipeline system with a capacity of 55 billion cubic meters of gas per year from Russia to Germany under the Baltic sea. Recently, the Federal network Agency for the development of the gas transportation network in Germany, was expelled five projects from the plan of expansion of Nord stream – 2 due to their “unreliability”.
