In Russia 26% of children under the age of 18 live in families with incomes below the subsistence minimum. It is reported by RBC with reference to the study of Rosstat “Socio-economic indicators of poverty.”

According to economists, child poverty often creates a “poverty trap”. When children grow up in poor families, they can’t get a decent education and meaningful social services. The number of Russians living below the poverty line in the first quarter of 2019 reached 21 million (14.3% of the total population). This was in late July, reported by Rosstat.
