Petro Poroshenko and Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew signed an agreement on cooperation and interaction.
In the Russian Orthodox Church said that the signing of the cooperation agreement between Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew – “a political move” and is “outside the canonical field”.
On 3 November, said the Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk.
“The latest steps and decisions Patriarch Bartholomew, including the signing of the agreement lie outside the canonical field and are located exclusively in the political arena. Taking orders from overseas, aimed at weakening and dismemberment of the one Russian Church, Patriarch Bartholomew hurries to fulfill the order, has not changed the political situation and until the authorities in Ukraine is the current President,” said Ilarion.
He also said that Bartholomew was “itself against the canonical world Orthodoxy and can no longer claim the role of universal coordinator for other Orthodox churches.”
“… If earlier with the agreement of the local churches of the Patriarchate of Constantinople acted as a focal point, now this centre no longer exists: the Patriarchate of Constantinople voluntarily abolish itself as such,” said the Metropolitan.
