Astronomers from Cardiff University and the British astronomical technology centre in Edinburgh have discovered how around a pulsar — the remains of a large star — formed planet. A supernova is called the final stage of life of massive stars (several times heavier than the Sun), when the latter explodes, releasing huge amounts of energy. This breaks down all the objects orbiting around it. The core of the star collapses in on itself, turning into a black hole or a neutron star with a diameter of several kilometers. It is believed that the emergence of new planets huddled around nucleus need to gravity has attracted a large amount of dust and gas.
Astronomers were able to confirm this view, having studied the pulsar (one of the varieties of neutron stars) Geminga which was removed from the earth at 800 light years and is located in the constellation Gemini. The observations were carried out with the help of infrared telescope, James clerk Maxwell, held in the Hawaiian Islands.
It was found that around a pulsar is the arc of the interstellar gas. This is because of Geminga moving very quickly in the galactic environment, exceeding the speed of sound. Encountered on the way particles of matter fall into a shock wave, and then captured by the gravity of the neutron star. Researchers estimate harvested substance sufficient for the formation of the planet.
Scientists hope to detect such processes near the other pulsars that confirms the insights of astronomers.
