A fatal accident involving Kalinowski occurred at the end of may 2007 on the Boulevard Shevchenko in Kiev
On 15 March, the Shevchenko district court of Kyiv began the consideration of the merits of the criminal case about infringement of safety rules of the road, the former stepson of oligarch Dmitry Firtash and Sergei Kalinovsky, which led to loss of life.
However, after the 20-minute sessions judge A. Trubnikov has postponed the trial at 10.00 am on 28 March in connection with absence of witnesses.
During the meeting the brother of the accused Alexander Kalinowski refused to testify, referring to the 63rd article of the Constitution, which allows not to testify against himself or members of his family.
Outside the courthouse, activists launched the rally with a demand to punish Kalinowski for his crime. Several dozen people were holding posters with appeals to honest justice: “the Killer has to sit down”, “a Fair trial does not support the stepchildren of the oligarchs”, “the Major-the murderer should be in prison” and others.
Accidents involving Kalinowski occurred at the end of may 2007 on the Boulevard Shevchenko in Kiev. Then, the stepson of oligarch behind the wheel of a sports car BMW-M6 at high speed drove into a parked on the roadside “the Zhiguli”. As a result of collision the driver of the car died at the scene, later died in hospital and 25-year-old passenger car Kalinowski. The cause of the incident escaped from the facility where he was taken after the accident, but was subsequently detained by police officers at the airport “Zhulyany” while trying to fly to Israel. Subsequently Kalinowski managed to escape justice and leave the Ukraine after the liberation under house arrest allegedly for treatment in a private clinic.
In March 2008, the Moscow Prosecutor’s office suspended the case, however the case was reopened under public pressure. Kalinowski was detained only in 2015 after yet another gross violation of traffic rules.
