New Orchid species have received the name Cynorkis christae. Flower, the smell of which is very similar to the smell of champagne, discovered by the Austrian botanist Anton Seder.
These incredibly beautiful flowers grow in a remote part of the island of Madagascar. Perhaps that is why, this species was still unknown to man. Found unique Orchid botanist Anton Seder has ensured that her sample came to the experts of the Royal Botanic gardens. Those convinced that analogues of the orchids had not been found previously and suggested to Anton to call the plant by its name. Like a real man, Sider suggested for this purpose, the name of his wife. Now Orchid with the smell of champagne is called christae Cynorkis – in honor of the wife of the botanist Krista.
The C. christae flowers reach 5 cm in length by 16-inch-tall stalks; the petals are white with Burgundy spots in the center of the flower. Its main feature — a sweet smell, like the smell of champagne.
Now the main goal of Sidera began investigating the possibility of breeding a unique flower. Next year he plans to again visit the island to collect the bulbs and send them to the store of seeds in the UK.
