SUV Range Rover Sport, equipped with an Autonomous control system, has successfully passed through one of the most challenging circuits in the UK ring the Coventry Ring Road. The car coped with transposition, passing through intersections and interchanges, observing traffic rules and the speed limit is 65 miles per hour.
The drone was built on the basis of the usual Range Rover Sport comes equipped with adaptive cruise control. In addition to the SUV mounted navigation sensors, the GPS signal, radar and a laser rangefinder. Thanks to them, the car can autonomously move around the ring junctions, to read the traffic signals, identify pedestrians, cyclists and other cars on the roads with complex traffic pattern.
For the movement of the drone Range Rover Sport also uses standard communication car to infrastructure (V2X), which allows you to get information from other cars and traffic lights when crossing intersections. A similar system called Smart Intersection recently introduced Honda.
The test was part funded by the UK government of the UK Autodrive project. The three-year program, which was aimed at testing Autonomous and connected vehicles on the roads of Milton Keynes and Coventry, will be completed in late October. The total investment in the project amounted to 20 million pounds.
