Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine has restored the policy of Ukrainian membership in NATO as one of the foundations of foreign policy.
In particular, on 8 June the deputies supported the corresponding bill No. 6470 on amendments to some legislative acts concerning foreign policy of Ukraine.
“For” vote of 276 deputies in the plenary. The author of the bill is the speaker of Parliament Andriy Parubiy.
The document stipulates that now one of the pillars of foreign policy will be the deepening of Ukraine’s cooperation with NATO with the aim of obtaining membership in the organization.
First, the rate on Ukraine’s accession to NATO were taken under President Viktor Yushchenko (2005-2010).
However, after winning the presidential election of Viktor Yanukovych in 2010, the Parliament was secured at the legislative level, the non-aligned status of Ukraine, in turn, abolished by Parliament in 2014, after the revolution of Dignity.
