More than 300 people’s deputies asked Prosecutor General Yury Lutsenko to take under personal control the investigation of the death of the leader of National Rukh Vyacheslav Chornovil. The statement was read out by MP Viktor Krivenko from the parliamentary rostrum.
“More than 300 MPs signed a petition to the Prosecutor General demanding the investigation into Chornovil’s murder. Three years ago the court of Appeal after the victory of the revolution of Dignity has canceled the closure of the case… No responsible, for a period of limitations no one is punished for three years and nothing is being investigated,” read it.
The statement said that such impunity has led to the “Gongadze case” and the killings of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes.
Vyacheslav Chornovil – Ukrainian politician, essayist, literary critic, leader of the resistance movement against the Russification and national discrimination of the Ukrainian people, political prisoner of the USSR. The conductor of the Ukrainian national-democratic liberation movement of the late 80-ies – 90-ies; the Hero of Ukraine (2000, posthumously).
Chornovil died on March 25, 1999 under mysterious circumstances in a car accident at Boryspil. A large portion of society is convinced that it was a political assassination.
