Russian President Vladimir Putin speaks at a press conference after the four-party summit involving the heads of Turkey, Germany and France in Istanbul on Syria. He said that the summit was held in business atmosphere, was carried out serious work. According to Putin, the leaders adopted a joint statement on the settlement in Syria.
“Russia, Germany, Turkey and France are United in the fact that the solution in Syria is possible only through political and diplomatic means in the unity of the country”, – said the Russian head.
Putin also noted that the leaders agreed to launch the work of the constitutional Committee of Syria. “Reform in this area is overdue,” he said.
The Russian President said that together with Turkish leader Recep Tayyip Erdogan informed the heads of France and Germany on the implementation of the agreement on Idlib. He expressed hope that Turkey will be able soon to complete the withdrawal of the opposition from the demilitarized zone.
“Russia reserves the right to help Damascus in the elimination of the terrorist threat from Idlib in case of provocations”, – he added.
Putin added that Russia and Turkey at a summit in Istanbul invited France and Germany to hold an international conference on the Syrian refugee problem. He also said that more will be held in Istanbul meeting with the President of France Emmanuel Macron.
In turn, the macron, took the floor and said that a possible operation Damascus to Idlib would be unacceptable. He also warned about the unacceptability of the use of chemical weapons. The macron spoke in support of the agreements between Turkey and Russia in Idlib and expressed the hope that they will lead to a durable truce.
