Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Russia is suspending participation in the INF Treaty. He also endorsed the proposal of the defense Ministry about the beginning of works on creation of hypersonic missiles, ground-based medium-range.
“We will proceed as follows. Our response will be a mirror. American partners have announced that they suspend their participation in the Contract and we are suspending. They announced that they are engaged in R & d and experimental design works, and we’ll do the same” – quoted Putin’s press service.
The President urged the Ministry of foreign Affairs and the Ministry of defense “to continue not to initiate any negotiations” on the issue of the INF Treaty.
“Wait until our partners are ready to lead with us on equal and meaningful dialogue on this important topic – for us and for our partners, and for the whole world,” Putin said.
