Published schedule of school holidays for this academic year

There will be new rules.

Academic year in schools in Ukraine traditionally began on 1 September 2017 and will run until 30 may 2018, though it distributed on trimesters, so overall there will be 6 periods of study and the same number of holidays.

Note that each trimester will last about 5-6 weeks, after which will be a week’s vacation. The only exception will be Christmas (2 weeks) and summer (3 months) vacations.

During the 2017-2018 school year will be 167 school days and 106 days off in a 5-day school week.

September 2017: all days – 30 instructional days – 21 days off – 9.

October: all days – 31 school days – 20 days off and 11.

November: all days – 30 instructional days – 19 days off – 11.

December: all days 31 instructional days – 16 days off – 15.

January 2018: total days 31 instructional days – 18 days off – 13.

February: just days 28 instructional days – 19 days off – 9.

March: all days 31 instructional days – 16 days off – 15.

April: all days – 30 instructional days – 21 days off – 9.

May: all days 31 instructional days – 17 days off – 14.

For the first time pupils have to go to rest in October. In General they fall on holidays will go twice next week rest is expected in November.

Holidays in 2017/18 years, according to the recommendations of the Ministry of education:

Term 1/autumn holidays – from 2 to 8 October inclusive;

2 term/fall break stage 2 – from 17 to 23 November inclusive;

3 term/winter break – from December 27 to January 8 inclusive;

4 term/winter break stage 2 – from 21 to 27 February;

5 trimester/spring break – from 10 to 16 April inclusive;

6 the trimester/summer break from 1 June to 31 August inclusive.

In addition, there are additional holidays for first graders that can be entered from 17 to 25 February 2018.

Students of educational institutions of Ukraine will have another day off on Monday, if the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, so in General pupils will be 11 days off for the holidays.

Holiday weekends in the academic year 2017-2018:

New year – 1 January;

Christmas – 7 January;

International women’s day – 8 March;

Easter – April 8;

International labour day – may 1 and 2;

Victory day in WWII on may 9;

Trinity – may 27;

The day of Constitution of Ukraine – 28 June;

The independence day of Ukraine – August 24;

The Defender of the Fatherland day – October 14.

Add that to the date of vacation only recommended by the Ministry of education, and a final decision on the timing and duration of holiday taking educational institution, so to entertain children of different schools and different regions are at different times, but exclusively in the recommended framework.

Additional holidays or postponement of holidays in schools and other educational institutions are possible for the following reasons:

– Lowest temperature – minus 25 degrees for the elementary school; minus 28 degrees – for middle school; minus 30 degrees – for students in grades 10 and 11.

– The low temperature in the classroom: when the air temperature in the classrooms below 18 degrees to hold classes is prohibited.

– Quarantine and the threshold incidence: quarantine can be declared in a separate school, separate district, city or region for excess of an epidemic threshold of disease in 25% of the total number of students.
