Lovecraft (1890 – 1937) the greater part of his life a sort of a recluse and, although they enjoyed the respect of his colleagues, did not have much of a wide success among the readers of his era. After the death of the writer has acquired a cult fame and worldwide fame as the Creator of the famous “Cthulhu Mythos”. Many works of literature, film, many video games and comic books were inspired by the works of Lovecraft.
During his life the writer led a very active correspondence. Among the respondents were those now known authors like Fritz Leiber, Robert Bloch and Robert E. Howard. According to researchers, the volume of correspondence Lovecraft was so great that he exceeded his own artistic legacy.
Brown University published in public access Howard P. Lovecraft collection – a large collection of letters from and to H. p. Lovecraft and the so-called “manuscripts of Lovecraft” – drafts of stories, articles, printed on a typewriter, home-made magazines of his time (during the great Depression some authors, including G. F. L. themselves gave a “magazine”, which published the works of his friends).
Among all this wealth, who are now in the public domain, can be found, for example, the outline of the story “mountains of madness”, performed on the sheets of the calendar. The value of this collection for fans and researchers is difficult to overestimate – even despite the fact that in recent years many in the West criticize the writer for xenophobia and racism, and on that basis have questioned the significance of the figures G. F. L. for the whole of modern culture.
