Elections at the Donbass can pass only after the withdrawal of Russian troops.
The President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the local elections on the temporarily occupied Donbass can pass only after the withdrawal of Russian troops and the establishment there of adequate security conditions.
The President said in Kiev during the opening of the 15th annual forum of YES-2018.
Poroshenko said that after the implementation of the Minsk agreements Ukraine is obliged to hold fair free local elections to “local communities could choose how to live, what language to speak, but of course in coordination with the Central authorities”.
“We are ready to run the local elections immediately after all conditions are met and safety requirements. We are four years waiting for this from the Russian side, even the slightest step. Instead, we hear talk about fake illegal elections in the occupied territories”, – said Poroshenko.
Poroshenko reminded that Ukraine is a unitary state and will never accept external pressure to change the structure of the state.
“Neither Moscow nor Brussels, nor Washington will decide what to be Ukraine, it is the sovereign right of the Ukrainian citizens”, – said the President.
Earlier, the militants “DNR/LNR” took the decision to conduct so-called elections “of heads and deputies of the parliaments” 11 November 2018. In addition, the terrorists Denis Pushilin appointed a temporary successor to the killed leader “DNR” Alexander Zakharchenko.
