Elections on Ukrainian territory, occupied by foreign troops, it is impossible and unacceptable. Commented the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko the statement of the Ambassador of Germany in Ukraine, Ernst Reichel.
“Elections in the occupied territory, in the presence of occupying foreign troops is firmly and absolutely impossible. This is the first position”, – said Poroshenko at a press conference on Thursday, February 9.
He stressed that it is impossible to compare the occupation of Eastern Ukraine by the Russian army and the situation in the GDR.
“It’s one thing when foreign troops are present with the consent of the host state. You can draw Parallels with the Russian base in Sevastopol – we held elections, when the Russian troops with the permission of Ukraine were present at the base in Sevastopol. And it is totally unacceptable that the occupying forces will attempt to promote the holding of elections at gunpoint,” said Poroshenko.
The head of state recalled that the so-called referendum in Crimea was illegal, was conducted in the presence of tens of thousands of Russian military. “Just impossible, we believe that the elections in Donbass”, – he added.
