Elections in the occupied part of Donbass in the presence of the occupation forces can not be, said the President.

“Elections in the occupied territory, in the presence of occupying foreign troops is firmly and absolutely impossible. This is the first position”, – said Poroshenko at a press conference on Thursday, February 9.

He stressed that it is impossible to compare the occupation of Eastern Ukraine by the Russian army and the situation in the GDR.

“It’s one thing when foreign troops are present with the consent of the host state. And it is totally unacceptable that the occupying forces will attempt to promote the holding of elections at gunpoint,” said Poroshenko.

The head of state recalled that the so-called referendum in Crimea was illegal, was conducted in the presence of tens of thousands of Russian military. “Just impossible, we believe that the elections in Donbass”, – he added.
