This is stated in the statement of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko on the chairmanship of Ukraine in the UN security Council.
“I congratulate the Ukrainian diplomacy on the successful presidency of Ukraine in the UN Security Council for the month of February. Thank you to all our partners for their friendly support, unity and solidarity with Ukraine in this crucial period. At the initiative of Ukraine managed more actively involve the UN Security Council to address the challenges to peace and security on the European continent”, — wrote Poroshenko on his page in Facebook.
In addition, according to him, conducted an open debate about conflicts in Europe have drawn the world’s attention to Russian aggression in the Donbas, particularly in the context of the escalation in the area of Avdeevka.
“From now on the word “Avdeevka” entered the international lexicon as a symbol of heroism of the Ukrainian troops, the invincibility of the spirit of Ukrainians and cynicism of the Russian aggression”, — he wrote.
The President reminded that the UN Security Council adopted the resolution on Ukraine to the protection of critical infrastructure from terrorist attacks.
“From the high rostrum of the world Ukraine together with partners have strongly condemned the Russian aggression in Donbas and the occupation of the Crimea and noted the importance of maintaining sanctions against Russia to restore territorial integrity of Ukraine. In the framework of the Security Council, including from the new US Administration, we have managed to consolidate strong international support in maintaining the key principles of international law and global order”, — added the Head of state.
He also wished good luck to the British presidency in the UN security Council in March and was assured support.
