Motorists complain of traffic jams.
Kontraktova square and St. Sahaidachny a month will be closed for cars. Authorities of the capital have decided to continue walking experiment. Opinion of Kiev citizens on this issue were divided.
Recall, August 1 a large part of Kontraktova square and part of the street Sagaydachnogo shielded with concrete blocks and presented to pedestrians by detour cars and gortransporta. In mid-September in the Kyiv city state administration planned to announce the results of the experiment. And the first results are not in favor of the drivers.
Many Kiev residents speak out in support of maintaining pedestrian hem. “No cars here has become more comfortable. Regularly held festivals, concerts. Even when there is no holidays, Sahaidachny are often street musicians. And just to stroll around the spacious square — for pleasure”, — says a resident of hem Irina Berezovets.
But there are disgruntled people who complain about traffic on narrow streets and are asked to return the traffic for cars on the blocked site, at least on weekdays. In Kyiv city Council even filed a petition with this requirement.
“Sagaidachnogo street and Kontraktova square is an important transport artery. In this district there are a large number of business centers, there is a large automatoc and the need to create a large number of Parking spaces. As the results of the experiment to overlap the hem of the tube in the morning and evening has increased significantly,” — said in the petition. However, the initiative is supported by just over 1,300 people (for review should be 10 thousand). Opponents of pedestrian zones also assure that on weekdays there is also a very lonely.
The Department of transport infrastructure KSCA say that after all the assessment of the majority of Kiev positive. So in the near future the limits for the car at the hem won’t remove. And do not rule out that the pedestrian zone will remain.
“Now the research continues and the count of pedestrian and traffic flows, a new comprehensive scheme of traffic organization from building the Upper and Lower Shaft to the European area, which will help to reduce congestion”, — said the Department. Here recall that at contract end the reconstruction of the square No. 3, near the metro station. The plan is to reconstruct the intercession and St. Andrew, and Sagaydachnogo street and Kontraktova square landscaping according to the approved concept of “living in Kiev”.
