Mysterious Australopithecus lived in Tanzania approximately 3.7 million years ago.
Scientists from the University of Perugia in Italy have discovered traces of the highest Australopithecus afarensis, which lived 3.7 million years ago in Tanzania.
A study published in the journal eLife on Wednesday, December 14.
The trail of a group of Australopithecines were found in the area of modern Laetoli — location in Tanzania, 20 kilometers from the volcano, Sadiman. Cherine scientist Marco (Marco Cherin), along with colleagues analysed them and was able to determine the approximate height and weight of ancient people.
According to scientists, the length of the foot of one of the Australopithecines exceed 27 inches, a height of the males is 165 cm and weight 48 kg. For comparison, height and weight of Lucy (the famous Australopithecus specimen discovered in 1974) is 105 inches and 27 pounds.
It is noted that other traces of the group was much smaller. For this reason, researchers compared high-Australopithecus with Chewbacca from the Saga “Star wars.”
