The situation in the East of Ukraine, neither improving nor deteriorating, as stated in the mission.
The Deputy head of the OSCE mission in Ukraine Alexander hug called the situation in the Donbas, “the swamp”, as it neither improves nor worsens. He stated this at a briefing.
“All that we see is the embarrassing situation that I would describe swamp which bogged down hundreds of thousands of innocent people. The situation is neither improving nor deteriorating,” he said.
According to him, the situation will remain like this until, “until the people who hold the power prefer to keep it that way”.
Hug said that the OSCE constantly hears that the parties have renewed their commitment to cease-fire, but it only lasts a certain period of time.
“The conflict has entered its third year, the whole cohort of people and maintenance crews, representatives of humanitarian organizations, the engineers, the OSCE observers and many politicians are working in order to improve the situation. They roll on heavy stone up the mountain, which almost reached the top rolls down every time,” he concluded.
