The Orthodox believers on Sunday, June 16, celebrate one of the most important Christian holidays − Holy Trinity Day, or Pentecost.
The Trinity is one of the most important holidays in the Orthodox calendar. It is celebrated on the 50th day after Easter and always falls on a Sunday.
In the tradition of Christianity, Pentecost is the symbol of the apostles finding its missionary purpose. The holiday is dedicated is described in the New Testament the descent of the Holy spirit on the disciples of Christ when they gathered in Jerusalem together with Virgin Mary and believers in the house on the hill of Zion.
On the heads of the apostles on this day, fire fell, and then they are “filled with the Holy Ghost,” received the gift to speak in languages that they never knew before, to preach in the world.
Church service on the feast of the Holy Trinity is one of the most solemn and beautiful of the year: the temples on this day is decorated with green branches, flowers and grass as a sign of renewal.
