Novak made the GDP forecast for Ukraine for the next year

The Chairman of the Committee of economists also said the real GDP to date.

In the current year, Ukraine’s real GDP will be about 2%; included in the state Budget-2018 the rate of economic growth could be revised downwards – the same as it was in the Budget this year.This opinion was expressed by the Chairman of the Committee of economists of Ukraine Andriy Novak.

“The draft Budget 2017 first predicted 3.5 percent GDP growth, then this figure is repeatedly adjusted downward to 3%, then to 2.5%. As a result, actual in the current year, GDP is at 2%. The same thing can happen with projections for next year,” he warned.

The economist said: “to expect higher growth next year, it was necessary to do something this year, but no substantial economic reforms, the government and the national Bank were not offered”.

According to Novak, in 2018, as well as in the current, “we’ll just have to depend on external conditions for Ukrainian exports – metals, grain, chemicals. If the situation is favorable, GDP growth rates may be somewhat higher.”

“Do you think we should focus on domestic consumption?” – asked to clarify the “observer”. “The focus should be on everything, but the long-term bet on a primitive raw materials of the Ukrainian export has proved that such an expert cannot become a locomotive of the sustainable development of national economy”, – said the expert.

Recall that during the Ukrainian-Maltese business forum the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said that the GDP growth in 2018 could reach to 3.2%.

September 1 of the current year the President of Ukraine said that the Ukrainian economy, despite the Russian aggression, and stood on the path of development – after 14 quarters of decline, GDP has been growing for 6 consecutive quarters.
