Our guest is the book by I. L. Auerbach “From crime to labor”, published in the USSR in 1936 in the publishing house of ogiz (I bet you only heard about DETGIZ).
The book is a miracle as well. First, a rich evidence-inflated material. And the abundance of leaf-staged photos.

For the author of this invaluable book was the niece of comrade Sverdlov IDA Auerbach, longtime wife of the incomparable Henry G. Berry (On the cover photo to the article: IDA Auerbach and her husband Henry Berry 20 Sep 1922). The Ministry of your precious husband of IDA L. and collected valuable materials for his monograph.

In June 1937, after a quarter after the arrest of Henry Grigorievca Berry, IDA Auerbach was dismissed from the Prosecutor’s office as “a family member of a traitor to the Motherland” and exiled in exile in Orenburg. Soon, however, responsible comrades came to their senses and corrected their mistake by sending Leonidovna Go straight to the study of labor reforging in Temlag for a period of 8 years. Since years in a labor camp, apparently, was enough to study the issue, and her husband, Heinrich Grigorievich shot in June 1938, the author of the monograph “From crime to labor,” wrote a new sentence. This time it was shot.

What can I say? He was arrested and also shot the brother of IDA – a prominent Soviet literary critic Leopold Averbakh. About her husband, the incomparable Henry Berry, even, and say nothing – shot in 1938. Little Berry, Jr. (he was at the time of arrest of the parents was seven years old) sent to a children’s home by the NKVD. However the party and the government were unable to surround the same care as its parents, therefore the Berry, Jr. (he took his mother’s surname, Auerbach), survived and even graduated from the Institute. And then that ungrateful! – emigrated to Israel. Where he died happily in 2006.
