If you think that in the recent Ridley Scott too little screen time was given to the most xenomorph, it was lucky, because you have not seen the Chinese version of the painting.
“Alien: Testament” will be presented in the cinemas of China, only 16 of June, but after the first press shows the public reaction was indignant. As it turned out, the tape was subjected to significant censorship. It was cut about 6 minutes with the hard and, frankly, long-awaited scenes. In the end, “the Testament” was, in fact, no meat and almost no monsters. Local fans of the franchise have called this editing “final and complete castration” of the film.
According to one of the spectators present at the preview, our favorite alien creatures appear on the screen for 1-2 minutes, no more.
A user under the nickname Angel Will Drive clarifies that the reduction is most noticeable in two scenes in the second half of the film, where we’ve removed all of the terrible shots with a Stranger, covered with blood, and scenes in which people are attacked.
And finally the same scene with neomort, appearing through a fractured back, was edited so that “in the Chinese version you can see only expressions of fear on the faces of people at the door”!
I think such censorship is itself more brutal than the scenes of violence which occurred censors don’t like, because the public was waiting for these scenes, waiting for someone else in the end! And the perception of history in General, such manipulations are bad. Fans and critics who attended pre-screenings in China, suggesting that all these “sharp” and “deep” changes completely “ruined the rhythm of the film.”
Well, that’s unfortunate.
However, the picture Ridley Scott still is interesting not only as a bloody spectacle, but as a ground for reflection. If curious, the editor-in-chief of the Zone Horror are very well reviewed all the subtexts of the film “Alien: Covenant.”
Well, we are now waiting for the release of the film on DVD and Blu-ray.
