Negotiations on settlement of the situation in the Donbas came to a dead end. This was stated by Secretary General of the OSCE Thomas Greminger at the Warsaw security forum.
“We are at a complete impasse in the negotiation process on settlement of the situation in Donbass”, – he said.
The Secretary General stressed that the tripartite contact group on peaceful settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine is trying to take steps in different directions, but without a political signal from the channel four participants in the negotiations and OSCE observers is limited room to maneuver.
He drew attention to the fact that in a recent discussion on the placement in the Donbass UN peacekeeping mission.
OSCE Secretary General believes that this can distract attention from the main issue – implementation of the Minsk agreements.
Speaking about the state of security in the Donbass, the OSCE Secretary General noted that the region has no significant improvement in this matter: after the announcement of the next truce the relative calm persists only for several weeks, and then fighting again intensified.
“A lot of heavy weapons on the frontline. Therefore, there is great risk of a widespread resumption of hostilities,” said Greminger.
