Researchers Cassini mission has provided a new photo of the relief, one of the moons of Saturn – Tethys.
On the frame, right part is visible, the largest part of the elevation of the satellite Tafia canyon Ithaca.
The depth of the canyon ranges from 3 to 4 miles, and the width is 100 kilometers. The edge of the seats is elevated to a height of up to 0.5 km Inside the canyon many long parallel valleys and ridges. The length of the canyon is about 2000 kilometers, 3/4 of the circumference of Tethys.
While the space Agency released the photos on April 24, Cassini took this shot on 30 January 2017, when the probe was at a distance of about 356000 km from Tethys. The image scale is about 1.2 miles (2 kilometers) per pixel.
Tafia — Saturn’s moon of medium size, its diameter is about 1060 km, It consists mainly of water ice with small admixture of stone. Its surface, according to spectroscopic data, of ice almost completely, but also contains a bit of dark matter of unknown composition.
