NASA has identified two candidates for the next robotic mission: the drone Dragonfly (“Dragonfly”) to send to Saturn’s moon Titan and a probe CAESAR (Comet Sample Return Astrobiology Exploration) to launch to the comet Churyumov — Gerasimenko. This was reported on the website of the American space Agency.
Over both projects will run until the end of 2018, spring 2019, NASA will choose one of them.
The probe is CAESAR able to take samples of materials from the surface of the comet and deliver them safely to the Earth, said the Agency. These samples will help to understand if the substance of the comet Churyumov — Gerasimenko impact on the planet, including the emergence of the oceans and life on Earth.
Dragonfly — the device like a normal quadcopter, but more adapted to the harsh conditions. It can analyze and transmit data about the composition of the atmosphere and upper layers of the soil Titan.
The comet Churyumov — Gerasimenko until September 2016 investigated station Rosetta, the European space Agency. The device launched in 2004, to the comet he flew ten years. During the time that Rosetta was in orbit of the comet, scientists have made a map of the object and determine its structure. The nucleus of the comet researched the Philae probe.
