NASA has tested a parachute for landing on Mars

NASA испытало парашют для посадки на МарсThe parachute will be used while sending missions to the Red planet in 2020.

NASA researchers successfully tested technology Advanced Supersonic Parachute Inflation Research Experiment (ASPIRE) on a Black Brant IX rocket. As reported on the Agency’s website, the test took place on 7 September, and NASA has managed to set a new world record.

After launch, separated from it by the payload. Cargo opened the parachute after reaching the required distance and Mach. NASA’s claim that the parachute opened for 0.4 seconds and is the fastest opening of the parachute of this size in the world.

“Mars 2020 will carry the heaviest load ever delivered to Mars and, like the previous Mars missions, we will have only one parachute, and it should work. ASPIRE test in detail, showed how our parachute will behave when disclosure in a supersonic flow high above the surface of Mars. And it looks beautiful,” said project Manager John Macnamee.

According to plans NASA, Mars 2020 will be sent to the Red planet in 2020 will achieve the goal in 2021. The parachute will be responsible for the delivery of the apparatus to the surface of Mars.
