Experts have discovered about 40 strains of bacteria, archaea and viruses, the closest known relatives of which differ from them by about 10 percent. These organisms, according to scientists, were in the isolated state for 10-60 thousand years.
The cave, which is found in creatures, is located above the magma pocket, whereby geothermal heat warms up to 60 degrees Celsius. In it, according to scientists, high levels of humidity and acidity of the atmosphere and no oxygen.
The great majority of organisms could not survive in such an environment, but found being used to produce energy, sulfides, iron, manganese and copper oxide. According to scientists, the discovery gives us confidence in the possibility of life on icy moons of Jupiter and Saturn.
