In the research center NASA’s John Glenn has developed a prototype “super-elastic tyres”, reports Tech Times.
To create it, the researchers have improved an old project spring bus invented by staff of the centre together with specialists of the company Goodyear. The prototype consists of a plurality of springs made of an alloy of titanium and Nickel.
The developers claim that the tire has a “superelasticity” — it is crushed when hitting the obstacle, but then quickly return to their original shape. In this regard, it is impossible to pierce. In addition, the lid can withstand heavy weight and load.
The product is suitable for Mars Rovers, but NASA do not exclude that these tyres in the future will replace the traditional car tires.
