Russian President Vladimir Putin may go to the annexation of Donbass, the West will continue the policy of non-recognition of the legal annexation of Crimea.
This was stated by former presidential adviser Andrey Illarionov in an interview with “Today”.
“As long as Putin will remain the hope of the exchange of the occupied Donbas to the West’s recognition of the annexation of Crimea, the overall situation will remain unchanged. If he is convinced that the rejection of the West’s annexation of the Crimea is not ad hoc, but principled nature, at some point, he may Annex the occupied and now Russia Donbass”, – said Illarionov.
He noticed that unlike the self-proclaimed Transnistria, OGLO have a common border with Russia.
“At some point, for example, before the “elections” in 2024 he (Putin – ed.) has to say: “When I took over the presidency, the Russian border was like that. And now look’s like this, plus Crimea, plus South Ossetia, Donbas plus, plus, probably, Belarus, without Vacherie. Look how the country has become. We are in a historical process of unification of the world’s largest divided nation. It’s a truly historic achievement,” – said the former adviser to the Russian President.
He pointed out that the maintenance ORDO spent a small part of the budget of the Russian Federation.
“In the Russian-occupied Donbas now lives, apparently, about 3 million people. This is approximately 2% of the current population of Russia. That is the end of the projected increase in spending from the Russian budget – 2%. Plus ORDO there is a kind of economic activity with coal, there are metallurgy, chemistry, mechanical engineering, accordingly, any income and any taxes,” – said Illarionov.
