Archaeologists for the first time in 500 years, opened the Sepulchre
Researchers studying the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, said that, despite all of the destruction and reconstruction of the temple, this place really is a tomb, which in the IV century found Elena is the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine.
According to archaeologist Fredrik Hibert from National Geographic, the contents of the tomb provides full proof that the place of worship to which pilgrims come modern, is the same tomb, discovered in the fourth century.
He also added that the Church for centuries, destroyed by fires, earthquakes and invasions.
“We didn’t know whether he was lined up every time at the same place,” said hibert.
Archaeologists for the first time in 500 years, opened the Sepulchre, removing the marble slab from the scene of the burial of Christ to find out what initially looked like a tomb. There they found a shelf of limestone, which, most likely, was the body of Jesus. The researchers then saw another plate with a cross, which, in their opinion, cut the crusaders.
Earlier, the archaeologists said that the tomb of Christ was intact.
