The first waterfall, flowing from the Taylor glacier in the Dry valleys McMurdo station in East Antarctica was discovered in 1911.
First, it was assumed that the red color arose due to microscopic red algae. But in 2003, the researchers found that the rusty hue of the water gives ferric oxide.
Now researchers have found out, hence the strange water which do not stop even low temperature. It turns out that the waterfall originates in the lake, locked in ice for 1 million years. This is stated in the study, researchers from the University of Alaska in Fairbanks and Colorado College.
Scientists have traced the path of the water from the source to the waterfall with the help of echolocation.
The Taylor glacier is very cold, and surprisingly, it actually leak water. One of the reasons why the fluid is brown doesn’t freeze on the way from the lake to the Bloody waterfall — the high salt content.
