The most popular tourist state of the European Union in 2016 was Spain.
In Spain last year, travelers spent more than 454 million overnight stays in hotels. The increase compared to 2015 the year amounted to nearly eight percent.
Second place is shared by France and Italy with a score of 395 million nights for each country. This figure fell 4.6 percent in France in 2016, and in Italy remained virtually unchanged.
Closes the top three Germany, where tourists spent in hotels of 390 million nights (increase of 2.8 percent). Fourth place went to the UK — 292 million, which is 4.5 percent less data for 2015. In Austria for 2016, travelers vacationing in hotels nearly 119 million nights (increase of about five percent).
In top ten ranking in descending order were also included Netherlands, Greece, Poland, Croatia and Portugal. Leader to increase the number of tourist overnight stays in 2016 was Bulgaria — a plus of 18 percent.
