More than half — 54% interrogated VTSIOM Russians said that people’s unity in Russia, probably not. The strongest doubts about the existence of this unity was expressed by the respondents of 45-59 years (59%) and 25-34 years (58%).
Moreover, 30% of doubters in unity believe that their fellow citizens of the inherent indifference and the principle of “every man for himself”. 21% of doubters in unity implies strong stratification in society and the hard life of the people.
However, 37% of respondents believe that national unity in Russia is likely to have. The most confident respondents are in the age of 24 (46%). Among the main arguments of those who believe in the unity — the ability to unite in a difficult moment and the manifestation of patriotism and the tendency of Russians to unity and mutual assistance.
It was also found that 68% of respondents consider it important to celebrate such holidays as the Day of national unity. They believe that the holiday brings people together and helps to foster a sense of patriotism and pride for the country, to remember history, gives the opportunity to relax from work.
27% of respondents said that they do not understand the very essence of the holiday and there is nothing to celebrate if there is no unity. They also do not consider it important to note Day of national unity, because this holiday “contrived” and represents the alternative observed before November 7 — the October revolution Day.
The survey was conducted on October 28, 2019 among 1,6 thousand respondents aged from 18 years.
