More than 300 thousand people have signed the petition of “Novaya Gazeta” the head of the Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation Alexander Bastrykin with a request to terminate the criminal case on the riots brought after the action on July 27. According to “Novaya Gazeta”, in the near future, signatures will be transferred to the investigative Committee and presidential administration.
The letter says that according to the 212-th article of the criminal code of the Russian Federation riots involve violence against citizens and the authorities, damage to property, arson and riots. “However, on 27 July 2019 in Moscow nothing like that had happened <…> We are required to dismiss the case due to the obvious lack of evidence of a crime. We believe that the criminal case on the riots used to intimidate the people of Russia and the de facto prohibition of the implementation of our electoral rights,” the statement says.
Among the signatories of the petition — musician Myron Oxxxymiron Fedorov, Directors Kirill Nenashev, Olga sinyaeva, Maria muskevich, writer Marina Vishnevetskaya, politicians and political scientists Yevgeny Roizman, Lyubov Sobol, Catherine Shulman, Mary Snow, and many others.
