Mitsubishi came up with the name for a new crossover

The name of a sports car Mitsubishi appropriated to the SUV.

Company Mitsubishi Motors has officially confirmed that its new crossover will be called Eclipse Cross. Debut SUV, which the automaker calls a “compact SUV coupe” will be held in early March at the Geneva motor show.

Before the name of the Eclipse wore the Mitsubishi sports car that was manufactured since 1989. In 2005 debuted the two-door “Eclipse” of the last generation, which lasted on the line until 2011. The model was offered with a 2.4-litre petrol engine producing 162 horsepower and the “six” 3.8 granting 263 power.

As previously reported, the new crossover will be built on the modernized platform of the Mitsubishi Outlander. Wherein the chassis will be stiffer, and the rear of the model will be set multi-link suspension.

Accurate data about the engine range of the model yet. It is known that for Eclipse Cross will be available 1.5-liter petrol turbo and 2.2 diesel. The first impact will be approximately 120 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque.

The choice of buyers will offer versions with a continuously variable transmission with six-speed manual transmission. Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will be sold with either front-or all-wheel drive.

It is expected that the new SUV Mitsubishi will compete for customers with the Nissan Qashqai and Seat Ateca.
