Among the many works of Stephen king “Gerald’s Game” is one of the most difficult to adapt to. It is not inflated budget requirements or some special cruelty… just hard to understand how and why it should be film the story, mostly taking place in the woman’s head, handcuffed to the bed. But there was a man who wasn’t afraid of the task, and in addition to the upcoming long-awaited “It” and “the Dark tower” this year we have a “Game Gerald”, produced by Mike Flanagan.
If you’ve watched the emerging horror of the last five years, you know that Mike Flanagan is one of the most promising independent filmmakers in the genre, and its “Oculus”, “Somnia” and “cheaper by the dozen. The curse of the Board of the devil” and received a positive evaluation and we are in the “Zone horror”. So interesting to hear his thoughts about already filmed and in which stage of post production of the film, which has received rave reviews from the King of horror.

In addition to directing, Flanagan was actively involved in the adaptation of the script. The project spans a special place in his career, and after you know the cause, it becomes clear why Netflix put it in the Director’s chair:
“We haven’t set a release date, but I’m already looking forward to show the “Gerald Game” people. I’m nineteen years wanted to do this picture, and that, you know, half the developers. And Yes, you are right, long time I thought that a book cannot be adapted. Have no idea if I’ll be proud of any of his films like this. All my previous works are largely created for this moment”.
Recall a short but succinct impression of Stephen king from viewing the pictures: “Horrific, hypnotic, stunning” and “you’ll go crazy brains”. The reaction of the master did not go unnoticed – Flanagan talked about their thoughts on the matter:
“We always kept in touch. King was from the outset involved in the project and frequently intervened, especially when the question concerned the casting, validation of any edits and the like. After he saw the film, we still communicated with each other. Words can not convey how excited I was when he reacted so violently at the picture. Probably, it howled with a significant “fan” moment in my life. As a longtime fan of his work, I know how it feels to see yet another film adaptation turns out to be a dud. I decided from the very beginning – the film must be worthy of his amazing novel. To adapt king is a complex and delicate work, and we’ve all seen what happens when it is done correctly. As a devoted reader, I didn’t want to “Gerald’s Game” appeared in the list of failures. I wish the author liked the movie, and was excited when it happened”.
Well, recommendations the most that neither is encouraging. Fingers crossed and hope that all three scheduled in this year’s adaptation of the King of horror will be watchable and will be prescribed in our personal tops.
