Microsoft has invented an unusual application

Microsoft изобрел необычное приложениеIt is sufficient to point the camera at the person and the result will not keep itself waiting.

Microsoft released Seeing AI — a mobile application that uses computer vision describes the world for people with vision problem. Users simply point the camera at a person, so the app told me who he is and what he feels. If you place the lens on the product, the program will provide information about it. It is all thanks to artificial intelligence that runs directly on the smartphone.

Seeing AI prototype the company showed back in March last year at the Build conference. But the app is now available to download on iOS for free, but only in the US. When the program will be released on Android and will be available in other countries, not reported.

The app can be useful in many cases. It recognizes people who “saw” before, and determine the age and emotional state of strangers. The program also identificeret products by their barcodes, scans documents and recognizes the American currency.

To “see” the world around, Seeing AI works with neural networks. Most of the basic functions of the applications run directly on mobile device — that is, quickly and without access to the Internet. But some experimental features require a connection to the cloud: for example, the description of complete scenes and handwriting recognition.

Technical Manager Seeing AI Sakib Sheikh (Saqib Shaikh) spoke to The Verge that most often used the app to read signs and menus. He noted that the program not only performs optical character recognition, but also sends user requests to move the camera right or left.

“One of the things we wanted to do — to implement face recognition on the device and we made it so that you will get the result for a few milliseconds, — said the Sheikh. We focusareas at speed and try to do as many things as possible directly on the device.”
