Merkel said about the inevitability of the Minsk agreements

Germany wants the Ukraine gained access to its border in the Donbas.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel does not consider it necessary to conclude a new agreement within the framework of the peaceful settlement of the situation in the East of Ukraine.

She stated this at a joint press conference with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Sochi on Tuesday, may 2.

The German Chancellor stressed that political steps can move only after reaching a truce. “We need a truce. It is essential for the further development of events”, – said Merkel.

Germany wants the Ukraine gained access to its border in the Donbas. “We of course want Ukraine to have access to its state border – it is also part of the Minsk agreements and then to provide political decision aimed at local elections”, – said the Chancellor.

In addition, Merkel sees no point in replacing the OSCE observers to the UN in the Donbas.

“It makes no sense to look for other formats that will not bring the greater good. We agree that the work of the OSCE is very important,” added the Chancellor.
