At the summit of the Council of Europe Merkel will make a statement about the Minsk agreement and the situation around the Kerch Strait.
Berlin will support the extension of anti-Russian sanctions at the EU summit, which will take place this week. On Wednesday, December 12, said the Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.
“We will call things by their proper names. We will advocate for the extension of sanctions”, – she said.
Merkel expressed “concern about the actions of Russia”. “We don’t accept factual claims [of Russia] on the sea of Azov”, – said the Chancellor.
Also Merkel said that Russia refused to host the OSCE mission in the Kerch Strait and the Azov sea.
“We tried to extend [the mission] in the Kerch Strait and the Azov sea, but Russia is dismissed”, – said the Chancellor.
She said she heard from the Russian side the assertion that “the normal navigation in the Azov sea possible.” “The words must be followed by actions,” – said the Chancellor.
Note that the European Council will meet on 13-14 December and will hear Merkel and French President Emmanuel Macron on implementation of the Minsk agreements for the further consideration of the question of extending sanctions against Russia.
