A concept called the Mars Terraformer Transfer involves the use of already by 2036 automatic interplanetary station Shepard to first dock to a small mass heavenly chip, and then send it to the surface of Mars.
In the fall of a celestial body on the surface formed a crater that filled with water from the melting of ground ice. After such a shock the climate in this Martian region will become much softer.
Near the new pond would accommodate the residential dome of the colonists. And greenhouses, placed in such premises that would provide eventually a Martian colony with food and would reduce the cost of moving goods from the Ground.
