Indigenous people managed to preserve their identities.

Maori – a Polynesian people, the indigenous people of New Zealand. The name “Maori” means “normal” / “natural”. So in the Maori myths are indicated by mortals, unlike the gods and spirits.

In the Maori legend about how they arrived in New Zealand on 7 canoes from their homeland Hawaiki. Modern research shows that the then uninhabited New Zealand was settled by Polynesians about 1280 ad. By the time all of the present habitat of mankind was already inhabited.

The ancestral home of Maori and all Polynesian is the island of Taiwan near mainland China. Directly to New Zealand people arrived from the Islands of Eastern Polynesia.
